The reason some prophecy teachers are pointing to 2033 is mainly a combination of the proposed AD 33 date of Jesus’ crucifixion/resurrection, a “2,000-year” pattern, and interpretations of Daniel and Revelation.
Why 2033?
1. Some date the crucifixion/resurrection to AD 33.
There is a serious historical/astronomical case for April 3, AD 33 as a possible crucifixion date, although AD 30 and other dates are also defended. So the starting point itself is not certain.
2. They add 2,000 years to AD 33.
AD 33 + 2,000 years = AD 2033
Some interpreters connect this with 2 Peter 3:8:
“with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”
They also connect it with Hosea 6:2:
“After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up…”
Their interpretation is:
- 1 prophetic “day” ≈ 1,000 years
- 2 days ≈ 2,000 years
- Jesus’ death/resurrection ≈ AD 33
- 2,000 years later ≈ 2033
This is a typological interpretation, however, rather than something the text explicitly says means “2,000 calendar years.” Current prophecy writers themselves acknowledge that this involves assumptions.
3. Daniel’s 70th week gets added to the calculation
In a pre-tribulation dispensational interpretation, Daniel’s final “week” is understood as a seven-year Tribulation.
So some people reason:
2033 Second Coming − 7 years = 2026 Rapture/Tribulation beginning
That’s why you’re seeing a lot of discussion about 2026–2033 rather than simply 2033. Some current prophecy writers explicitly propose this timeline.
There are actually different versions of the calculation. Some put the Rapture around 2026, while others argue that the entire 2,000-year Church period comes first and therefore put the Rapture closer to 2033.
But there is a major biblical problem with setting 2033
Jesus explicitly said:
Matthew 24:36
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man…”
And in Acts 1:7, Jesus told the disciples that it was not for them to know the times or seasons the Father has fixed by His authority.
So there is an important distinction:
“2033 may have symbolic significance”
is very different from
“The Bible predicts that Jesus will return in 2033.”
The latter cannot be established from Scripture.
Interestingly, even the JC2033 Christian movement, which is specifically centered on celebrating the 2,000th anniversary of Christ’s resurrection, explicitly says that its 2033 celebration should not be associated with predicting Jesus’ return and cites Mark 13:32.
One more important point
2033 is not necessarily a “Rapture date.” There are actually several different claims circulating:

So when you hear someone say “the Rapture is in 2033,” it’s important to ask which prophetic framework they’re using.
And since we’re now in 2026, the fact that some earlier 2026 predictions have already been circulating is itself a useful reminder: the calculations depend heavily on assumptions about chronology, Daniel’s 70th week, the date of the crucifixion, and how Hosea 6:2 and 2 Peter 3:8 should be interpreted. They aren’t an explicit biblical timetable.
